The Orientalism movement captures artists’ travel journey to countries such as Turkey, Persia, Iraq, Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine, Arabia, and North Africa. The movement lasted about a century and involved the major artists of the 19th century, who created realistic paintings of their travel experiences. Some of the most renowned artists are Jean-Leon Gerome, Benjamin Constant, Rudolph Ernst and Henri-Emilien Rousseau.
