Jessie Willcox Smith was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1863 and died in 1935. Smith was an American illustrator for childrens books as well as famous magazine publications like "Ladies Home Journal", "Good Housekeeping", Harper's", and more. She attended the School of Design for Women and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts She was one of the ten women inducted into the Hall of Fame Society of Illustrators (established in 1958).
