Morton Livingston Schamberg was born in 1881 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and died in the fall of 1918. Schamberg studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Pensylvania and became precisionist painter and photographer. One of the first American artists in the precisionism movement, a movement characterized by its industrial subject matter, clean precise lines, and geometric forms. His work also suggested cubist influence, making him one of the first American artists to endorse the style. While living in Paris he was also accepted into the circle of avant-garde artists and writers. Unfortunately in 1918, at the young age of 37, Schamberg died during a flu pandemic.
