Segundo Matilla Marina was a Spanish painter who was born in Madrid in 1862 and died in 1937. He studied under Antoni Caba at the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona. There he specialized in landscape and seascape painting, which was the substance of most of his work throughout the rest of his life. He was very notable at painting sunsets and capturing the inherent beauty of the heavens. He eventually settled in Catalonia, but continued his pursuit of art. He was awarded an honorary diploma during his participation in the International Exhibition of Barcelona in 1891. He also exhibited in the exhibitions of '94, '96, and '98 even on to 1918 and 1919.
