Agostino Carracci, an Italian painter and printmaker, was born in Bologna, Italy in 1557 and died in the year 1602. His work dealt mainly with fresco and altarpieces, but he also specialized in landscapes. He belonged to a family of painters, who helped him establish a teaching academy in Bologna called the Accademia degli Incamminati (Academy of the Progressives). It became the most popular school in Bologna in just a few short years.
